The Wine Wankers are going global!

It’s time for us to take on the world! 😛

It feels strange writing this considering 80% of our half a million followers on social media are from outside of Australia, but the truth is much of what we do has been Aussie centric because both Drew and I have been based in Sydney. That’s all about to change, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, Drew is moving to Sweden next month (mid-March), so he’ll be in a position to write about a lot more international wines than ever before.  Being on Europe’s doorstep, Drew will only have to travel 2 hours to get to any wine region he chooses – lucky bastard At the moment – we’d have to travel 24 hours if we wanted to visit Bordeaux, The Mosel, Rioja, or even England’s sparkling wine regions of Sussex and Kent – that’s a lot of money being spent on Qantas!

As much as we’d love to give you more info on non-Aussie wine, it has been difficult because we mainly get sent samples from Aussie wineries (which we are very grateful for). Importers don’t distribute as many samples. But with Drew moving to Sweden, it gives us a greater opportunity to taste and mention wines from around the world. If you are a European based winery and you’re keen to have Drew taste your wines then click here or send an email to winewankers@hotmail.com and we’ll give you the details you need.

Conrad and Drew – going global!

I’m also led to believe Sweden has an unbelievable food scene, so don’t be surprised if Drew’s Instagram pics will have you booking a holiday to Stockholm to check out their world class restaurants.

As alluded to above, about 20% of our following is from Australia. About the same, 20%, is from the UK and Ireland. Around 10% is from mainland Europe and at least 5% is from Canada. But the largest following we have is from the USA at well over 30%. So although many have seen us as just an Aussie outfit, our reach is truly global. We look forward to being able to sample a larger range of the world’s wine.

The second reason things may be changing is that due to our large American following. We are toying with the idea of having a US based Wine Wanker join us. At this stage, we’re just throwing this out there as a thought. 😉

So watch out world, here we come!

  3. Congratulations guys! The only thing I’m waiting on now is your online office opening for your international presence on traveling the wine regions of the world.
You know, travel arrangements, bookings, tour arrangements as well as a more up market personal tours.
Show the world your talents guys, teach them ‘the art’ of tasting trellis grown Traminer to Trebbiano, Trousseau to Trepat with tempting titillating tasty titbits in towns from Tuscany to Trentino-Alto Adige.
I hope I got those names right 🙂
Well done, take a bow, may it go from strength to strength 🙂

  4. As an Australian who moved to Europe 6 months ago, this is fabulous news. I look forward to learning about European regions and varieties that I have yet to visit .

  5. Congrats! I completely understand. Have been toying with the idea of moving to California as there is just so much damn fine wine there. Beats Texas at least. And yes, Texas is coming along, but it’s got a long way to go yet.
