GUESSING COMPETITION… and the answer is.... the Barossa Valley in South Australia. To be exact, the vines are owned by @yellandandpapps in Nuriootpa, which are directly across the road from @penfolds Barossa headquarters . Guess the #wine region using the picture and this description as clues. Answer revealed in 24 hours. “Mediterranean climate, [name of wine region] typically experiences cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers, which is ideal for grapegrowing.” . #postbydrew #winewankers
Are you a fan of @Henschke? Then you’ll probably be a fan of this #wine. The pedigree and provenance of the Shiraz vineyards at @huttonvalefarm is impressive. The ‘old’ block was planted in the 1960s with cuttings taken from the nearby Henschke Mount Edelstone vineyard. Nominations for favourite winery dog is now open! . Ha! This is Angus Wardlaw, winemaker for Barossa/Eden Valley label, @brothers_at_war . His love of the region, especially Eden Valley, is fully apparent in the super delicious wines they produce. Along with brother Sam, vigneron Chris Alderton and Matt Carter (some other guy) - these guys epitomise everything I love about the wine industry these days. FUN; they don’t take themselves too seriously - just their winemaking.! They focus on producing wines that do exceptionally well in this part of the world. Riesling, Grenache, Mataro, Cabernet Sauvignon, and of course Shiraz. . They’ve only been established for a few years, but they’ve already secured 5 star Winery status by (uncle) James Halliday and won the Trophy for the Best Small Producer at the 2016 Barossa Wine Show. Quick quiz - are you still drinking Chardonnay? . There was a time when Chardonnay was everywhere, and it was the ubiquitous term for ‘white wine’. And then started the backlash - ABC - anything but chardonnay. This killed chardonnay off for many years for many of us as we searched for a less popular replacement. Me - i’ve come full circle. These days when I drink Chardonnay, I sometimes feel like a rebel. . If you haven’t picked up a bottle recently, I suggest you do. Especially from a region you don’t normally buy from. Last weekend I ventured to Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula where I re-acquainted myself with the region’s top Chardonnays. One of my favourites was @montaltovineyardandolivegrove The Eleven #Chardonnay - so called because of the minuscule production, being sourced from the vineyard’s best 11 rows.
