London Wine Fair – here we come (plus the best wines to drink this week)

London is calling, well it will be this week! I (Drew) will be reporting live from the London Wine Fair, so be prepared for lots of great wine recommendations. Meanwhile, Conrad is finally over his jetlag from a whirlwind trip to Argentina, where he drank far too many good Malbecs. So he’s back to tasting the best wines Australia has to offer.

Enjoyed some beautiful #Malbec and blends at @BodegaVistalba in the #Mendoza #wine region of #Argentina. The Corte A, B, and C were all lovely complex drops with each showing its own unique character and the Tomero Malbec was beautifully fresh and refined with dancing fruit. Yum stuff. Here's a @torreswines Cabernet Sauvignon from the Spanish region of Penedes that came into its own after a day of decanting. Served with potato gnocchi and beef ragout, the drying tannins and cassis fruit were a great match. Penedes is considered one of the country's best wine-producing regions after the Rioja. I've tasted about 150 rosés over the past couple of months and this is definitely the best so far. This one is from Provence. The rosés from this subregion called Bandol are generally made from Mourvedre. This wine has real depth; fragrant berries on the nose and a beautifully balanced palate. After relocating to Europe I'm now tasting a lot more old-world wines, which is a nice change from the tropical fruit flavoured New Zealand and Aussie SBs. Had friends over for #lunch today and they told me that they like #wine that smells earthy, musty and barnyard-like so I cracked open this 20 year old #SuperTuscan, the Carpineto Farnito #Cabernet. Yesterday I was reminded how good Cotes du Rhone Blanc is when matched with spicy Asian food. I don't know what the blend was here, but was probably a mixture of #Roussanne #Marsanne and #Viognier. Here's a great little sparkler if you can get your hands on it. @simonsigwines from the Stellenbosch region was the first producer in South Africa to master methode champenoise.
