It's one of the most amazing #vineyard sceneries for a #wine lover to witness… grapevines growing in the volcanic ash on the #Atlantic #desert island of #Lanzarote off the #African #Sahara coast. Shadows and #wine! Been working our way through some amazing wines this long #weekend from Wynns Coonawarra, the #Wynnsday 2016 Collection that are due for release in August. Although they've all got many years ahead of them you get the gist of where they are going and overall they are beauties. The 2013 Harold #cabernet, from a good vintage, stands out as a complex power machine with loads of character! So this just happened; a 1945 Hugel Riesling from Alsace was just opened. Consider the history in this wine…. World War 2 had just finished and Europe was reeling. It snowed during winter and there weren't many workers to pick the grapes. German prisoners of war were recruited for the task. And today this wine was opened and appreciated. Yes, It's best days were behind it, but it still had a myriad of stories to tell. Such a privilege. Id love to say it's a beautiful day in Alsace, but it's raining!!
