The weekend is here – and that means you need drinking options. Our Southern Hemisphere friends – you want warm and inviting reds, and for our Northern Hemisphere mates – something refreshing for those summer nights. Fortunately Conrad and I have all bases covered! Cheers, Drew.
Coonawarra Cabernet matched with roasted duck pie, served at 30.000 feet and the pastry was still deliciously flaky. So impressed! It's been 10 years since I last tasted the @petalumawine Coonawarra Cabernet. It's still a textbook example of why Coonawarra does this varietal justice; ripe casis, cigar box and great palate length. We're at the seriously NOW restaurant, @luckybeenyc in New York's lower east side. This little enclave of Australia in the Big Apple is doing everything right when it comes to Thai food. Chef Matty is ex @longrainrestaurant and the tight wine list is Asian food friendly. Tonight we're drinking this Muscadet from France. Well priced and Fabulous with spicy ingredients and very refreshing during this New York heat wave. Post by Drew. #winewankers #wwnewyorktrip #wwontour #luckybeenyc #wine
Gewürztraminer from Alsace is truly world class. Why? You need to read our just published new blog post at winewankers.com – '11 things you need to know about #wine from #alsace'. This 'traminer from #domainejeanmarcbernhard is typical of the better value wines from the area. Full of exotic spices, honey and tropical fruit flavours. I loved this Central Otago Pinot from @twopaddocks (owned by actor Sam Neill), but what I loved even more was the spectacular surroundings where I drank it. Perched 47 floors above Sydney's CBD, @obardining sports unrivalled panoramic views. This place is geared to a drinks crowd. While I now call Sweden home, it's good to be back in Sydney and this view definitely reminded me why this is the best city in the world! Can’t afford Champagne but still want to celebrate with French Fizz – look no further than Cremant d’Alsace. It’s made with the champagne method using a blend of grapes which could include Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Auxerrois or Chardonnay. Elegant, a racy acidity with citrus and floral notes. Post by Drew #winewankers #wwalsacetrip #wwontour #wine @vinsalsace @drinkalsace #funfizzfriday
I was recently in New York and dined at a modern French bistro, downing this good value #chardonnay from California with succulent scallops. This Napa/Sonoma combo wine was flavourful to say the least; juicy ripe peach and melon with a nutmeg and nougat background. Post by Drew. #winewankers #wwnewyorktrip
