The Wine Wankers now accept and review samples

jims cellars italian wine party for the wine wankers australian wine blogs

We were recently approached by a representative of an online bottle shop asking if we’d accept some wine in return for blogging about it and mentioning them.  It was like “Huh, what, someone wants to send us wine?”.

So we really had to think about this very carefully.  It was a long process that went something like this…

“Hey, someone wants to send us some wine to taste and blog about, should we be doing this”

“What, free booze?”

“Yeah”

“Well shit yeah, let’s do it!”

We got back to them and told them that any wine we tasted would have to be within the context of our blog and that we would have to declare it.  It’s important to us that we tell our own stories.  So as long as we tell the story then we’re more than happy for the goods to be provided to us.  😉

We negotiated a few bottles of Italian wines and we will drink some of them in an upcoming Italian wine and pizza party.  We look forward to telling you all about how it goes.

And we very much understand that accepting samples and blogging about them comes with great responsibility so we have created a samples policy that now appears on our main menu.

  1. Dear Wine Wankers. What a taxing situation you suddenly find yourself in. Should the stream of free wine bottles ever become too overwhelming for you, let me know, and I will gladly come to your rescue (especially for the bubbly variety). CHEERS!!!

  2. YES! This is a natural progression. As long as readers know you’ve been provided the samples and are reviewing without pressure, we’ll be right there with you. And you’ll be doing a good service, with an honest opinion. And possibly little-known wineries can get some “free” publicity. Win-win situation, if you ask me!

  3. Free wine!? Blog about free wine!? NICE. If you end up with too many samples throw some my way, I’ll help! By drinking them.

    Congrats guys, exciting move!

  4. The very best part of my job as an “Ontario wine consultant” was the weekly bottle I had to taste test. Mind you: I did have to go through some plonk and figure out what could best be done with that too

  5. I am clearly blogging about the wrong sorts of things. I may have to switch to wines, whiskies, cigars, and exotic sports cars.

But not women. As my father has solemnly reminded me on many occasions, “Sometimes even one is too many.” (He and Mom are still happily married into their 70’s)

  6. I am becoming increasingly jealous as I read this, but am enjoying a bottle of Lindeman’s Bin 50 Shiraz…not a premium wine by any guide, but a nice “everyday” Australian wine for us common folks who don’t get expensive wine for free.

    • Oh the pressure! The last thing I want is for this to take away from the enjoyment. I’d rather just drink my own stash if that happens. Thanks a lot for stopping by us right from the early days (actually, about 4 months ago yesterday). It’s appreciated because some other wine bloggers have not dared. And I enjoy your yarns, hence your namesake. Cheers!

  7. Conrad – looks like you have the wine world fairly well covered – I’ll be moving to Whiskey – will you take me on as Whiskey Wankers and pass it along to your generous patron of the arts? A man can dream. Congrats on work well done and rewards well deserved.

  9. I am awarding you the Blog of the Year Award 2013 as an expression of my gratitude for following “The Journal of Wall Grimm” blog. You can see the post here: http://wp.me/p41c99-hx If you don’t accept awards, that’s no problem at all. Awarding you is my way to thank you and it is of no insult to me if you decline.

  10. Ok, I want to be where the fun is, too…………so………….I’m now following….again! How could I have been so stupid, crass, and mindless to stop following awhile ago. I don’t even know why I did it! I’ll plead ignorance, and I think I can make it stick! Let the good times roll! Maybe after a few glasses of wine in the evening I can even write better haiku!

    Cheers,

  11. I can’t believe how selfless you are! Forcing yourself to drink all that wine just so we, your loyal followers, can understand more about the intricacies of wine. When you can’t force yourself anymore, just send it up the mountains.. I’m always happy to help a fellow saint out.. 🙂 lol

  12. Conrad, today I’m making a cupcake with brown sugar and Brie. I don’t drink so have no clue what wine would pair nicely with it. Would you bbe ok with me directing people to your blog through mine?

  13. We did a lot of wine tasting when we lived in Germany for three years, and got hooked on good German wines. Thanks for following my blog. I am humbled and delighted. Happy holidays, and a good new year to you and your endeavors.
